Event Overview

OpenVoice's Inaugural BP Practice Competition

On October 6, 2025, OpenVoice proudly hosted its inaugural BP (British Parliamentary) practice competition, an event that garnered significant attention and participation from a diverse group of debaters and judges representing various schools across the region. This competition was designed not only to provide a platform for aspiring debaters to showcase their skills but also to foster a spirit of camaraderie and intellectual exchange among participants. The event was meticulously structured and divided into two distinct stages: the preliminary round and the final round, each serving a critical role in determining the overall winners while allowing participants to engage deeply with complex topics.

Preliminary Round

During the preliminary round, contestants faced off in a series of intense debates, grappling with pressing issues that resonate within contemporary society, including:

  • Societal justice

  • The ethical implications of technology

  • The balance of fairness in various contexts

Each round presented unique challenges, compelling debaters to think on their feet, construct coherent arguments, and respond effectively to opposing viewpoints. The topics chosen for discussion were carefully curated to stimulate critical thinking and encourage participants to explore multiple perspectives, thus enriching the overall debate experience.

Final Round

The final round of the competition was a culmination of the hard work and dedication exhibited by the debaters throughout the event. It showcased the top teams who had demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic acumen in the preliminary rounds. This round was particularly intense, as the stakes were high, and the pressure to perform at peak levels was palpable. The judges, who were seasoned debaters themselves, provided insightful feedback and evaluations, ensuring that the competition maintained a high standard of intellectual rigor and fairness.

Organizational Excellence

The entire event was conducted online, a testament to the adaptability and resourcefulness of the organizers, who were predominantly young individuals passionate about debate. They took on the significant responsibility of independently planning, coordinating, and operating the competition, demonstrating impressive organizational skills and a commitment to excellence. Their efforts resulted in a seamless operational rhythm that allowed the event to flow smoothly, setting a benchmark for future regular practice matches.

Tournament Highlights & Award Recap

Our inaugural tournament featured three finals — Golden, Silver, and Bronze — each showcasing a different layer of competitive energy and analytical excellence.

In the Golden Final, Team 4 (Sunny & Yuri) took the championship with a commanding performance marked by strong structural clarity and depth of engagement. Team 18 (Howard & Dean) claimed second place with sharp clashes and intuitive strategic responses, while Team 19 (Pauk & Natalie) secured third with concise framing and tight logic.

In the Silver Final, Team B (Jerry & Issac) stood out for their composure and argumentative flow, earning first place. Team C (Stephen & Andie) and Team D (Brian & George) followed closely behind, demonstrating strong collaborative dynamics and extension strategies.

The Bronze Final was led by Team 8 (Michael & Brendan), whose consistency and delivery stood out across rounds. Team A (Amy Wang & William Jia) and Team 23 (Shawn & Peter) finished in second and third, respectively, showcasing promise and rising potential.

This tournament was more than a competitive showcase—it served as a growth space for both new and experienced debaters to challenge themselves, reflect, and receive feedback. Every round reaffirmed our mission: to make debate more accessible, developmental, and empowering for all.

Parents' Feedbacks

This event not only received unanimous praise from the contestants and judges, but also received a large amount of positive feedback from parents. Many parents have expressed that their children have gained an unprecedented experience of expression and a sense of confidence through the competition. Especially in a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment for growth, their abilities of independent thinking and listening have significantly improved. Some parents expressed their feelings, saying, "After the competition, my child took the initiative to talk to me about the debate topic and even said that he wanted to continue competing in the future."

More parents mentioned that the organization was meticulous and the process was smooth, especially the concept of "not fighting for the sake of winning" was particularly impressive. It is widely recognized that this is a platform suitable for students to start, practice and grow, and they have expressed high expectations for future activities.
