Event Overview
Overview
On November 9, 2025, OpenVoice successfully hosted its second BP practice competition, bringing together a diverse group of young debaters from multiple schools. Building on the momentum of our inaugural event, this tournament reaffirmed OpenVoice's mission to provide an inclusive, low-cost, high-frequency platform for youth to engage in meaningful debate.
Led by a team of student organizers and adjudicators, the event upheld our commitment to student-driven leadership, accessibility, and growth. The structure featured three preliminary rounds followed by a final, offering all participants multiple opportunities for practice, feedback, and reflection.
Motions
Round 1: THBT AI will make people lazy
Round 2: THW limit children’s screen time by law
Round 3: THBT dreams are more important than plans
Final: THW allow the state to regulate emotional AI companions
These motions were carefully selected to span themes of technology, governance, childhood development, and aspiration. Debaters responded with creativity and critical thought, often drawing from personal insights and current global trends.
Final Round and Awards
The final round featured the top-performing teams from the preliminary stages and showcased sharp argumentation, strategic engagement, and impressive teamwork. Judges, all with strong debating backgrounds, provided in-depth feedback that emphasized both technical improvement and deeper reflection.
Awards were given for Best Team and Best Speaker in both Gold and Silver divisions, recognizing not only competitive success but also intellectual integrity and growth potential.
Organizational Highlights
As with our first competition, this event was fully student-led and conducted online. Our organizing team, including technical leads, debate mentors, and support coordinators, ensured smooth execution across registration, scheduling, tabbing, and real-time support.
The success of this second competition demonstrated OpenVoice’s growing capacity to scale high-quality educational events while remaining true to our values: expanding access, nurturing potential, and promoting debate as a tool for personal and civic empowerment.
